Craig MT – Missouri River Weekend
June 13 - June 16
Contact Email – email@example.com
As promised, United Women on the Fly is hosting another weekend on the World Famous Missouri “MO” River in the not-so-sleepy fishing village, Craig Montana.
The MO is known as America’s Longest River, with incredible hatches, sizeable fish, wade friendly banks and several fishing options.
There are several experienced and professional shops in the area to hire a guide. This is a DIY Fishing Weekend. Your on your own fishing during the day and we all meet up in the evenings in downtown Craig MT for a social potluck of fish tales and picture sharing. Feel free to bring your own boat, rent a boat or hire a guide for one, two or three days of fishing.
Due to the distance of the location, many of us will be arriving Thursday evening, fishing Friday, Saturday and part of Sunday before we head home.
Hosts: Heather Hodson, info@firstname.lastname@example.org and Lindy Lindy LaMascus Orozco, email@example.com.
Location: Craig Montana 5.5hrs from Spokane WA. Craig Montana, population of 43, is a fun fishing town filled with lots of fishing stories and photos to back them up.
Lodging: You’re on your own for lodging. There are several lodging options that are for every budget. Beds are hard to come by during this time. We recommend you reserve lodging NOW!! Lindy and Heather will help connect those wanting to share lodging and/or a guide. This is a first come, first serve option.
Again, everyone is responsible for your own accommodations. Lindy and Heather have rented the Sutton Cabin in the heart of Craig Montana. This will be the main meeting place each evening for dinner, drinks and fish tales.
Lodging fills up quickly!! Book sooner, rather than later!! See the lodging posts in this event for more information.
Fishing: There are alot of options to fish the Missouri River. You can wade it, swing it, float it or get a guide. Please make a game plan with the other women that are going, whether you want to wade fish or if there is room in a boat. If you’re on a budget, three women can rent a boat. Rowing is beginner friendly. Lindy and I will try to help those out who want to get in a boat or with lodging.
The river is Pontoon and Boat Friendly. The rowing is very easy. The fly shops offers shuttles starting at $23.00. The shops will have all the flies, gear and knowledge that you’ll need.
** If you’d like to leave the hassle at home and learn to fish the river with one of the skilled and professional guides then call one of the shops to put your deposit down for one or two days. You can either find a fishing partner, fish solo or post that you’re looking for someone to share a boat with. The guide trips are around $550.00 a day (plus a 3% local tax). That is for 1 or 2 people in the boat and includes drinks, lunch, all the flies and tackle you will need, rods and reels. The only thing it doesn’t include is a Montana Fishing License and gratuity.
Some of the shops rent drift boats. They will hold 3 people, the rower and 2 anglers. If this is of interest, we can send you to the shops.
Meals: We’ll meet up for a communal dinner on Friday and Saturday evening. You’re on your own for breakfast and lunch. Everyone will be asked to bring an item for one of the evenings. This will keep the meal cost down.
Fishing Techniques – The MO is well known for it’s technical (at times) dry fly fishing. Caddis and PMD’s should be hatching during that time of year. Nymphing is excellent during this time, streamers are also an option. The MO is quickly becoming famous for catching trout with your two handed rod. Perhaps you’ll want to get acquainted with catching trout on the swing while you’re on the trip?
Please contact either Lindy or Heather for further information. If you’re interested in renting a bed in a cabin, please post it on the closed group or let one of the hosts know and we’ll spread the word. Cabins fill up quickly, so be sure to put your deposit down sooner rather than later. You definitely will not be disappointed in the famous Missouri River!
