North Carolina Fish and "Hang" Weekend

Welcome to the second annual North Carolina Fish and Hang weekend of education, empowerment, and fun hosted by United Women on the Fly, Pisgah Area Women’s Fly Fishing, Headwaters Outfitters and Fly Fish Instruct.  This event is the UWOTF fish and “hang” format, where participants venture out to fish on their own each day and then hang out in the evenings.   The weekend has been designed to be budget-friendly. Camp, reserve a cabin/hotel, DIY Fishing, or hire a guide. The event takes place near Rosman, North Carolina in the Pisgah National Forest from 5/12 – 5/14/23.

We will be camping again at the Headwaters Outfitters campground and are offering two different OPTIONAL fly-fishing workshops.  There are still a few spots left in the 2-Day Women’s “Fly Fishing 201” Workshop on Thursday 5/11/23  and Friday, 5/12/23.  The 4hr “Independent Angler” Workshop on Saturday 5/13/23 is SOLD OUT.  Register HERE for the workshops or camping.

Please utilize the Facebook Group to connect with other women attending and make weekend fishing friends.  If needed, the event co-hosts will try to help connect you with someone to fish with.  Please let us know if you need to borrow any equipment.

The mountains of western North Carolina are home to roughly 4,000 miles of coldwater streams, more miles of trout-supporting waters than any other southeastern state. Our home county, Transylvania, boasts nearly 500 miles of coldwater creeks, streams and rivers, which means there is wonderful trout fishing almost everywhere you look, ranging from tiny brook trout streams to raucous rivers plunging through deep gorges filled with rainbows and browns.

Fishing License

North Carolina fishing licenses are required.  Purchase a NC fishing license at–applications.

Do Not purchase Mountain Trout.  You will need an Inland Fishing License for our area.

DIY FIshing

If you’re choosing to DIY Fish,  see the handout with locations of where to go.  Each angler is responsible for bringing their own gear, tackle and flies.  If you need gear, please let us know.
