The Fishing Kids Program was established in 1996 a

The Fishing Kids Program was established in 1996 and is built around the slogan “Getting more kids fishing, more often”. Events are designed to create and provide more fishing opportunities for urban youth, ages 5-14. Each event hosts approximately 300-800 children and for a minimal entry fee each participant receives a Fishing Kids t-shirt, rod & reel to keep! The kids fish in groups on-shore for up to 60 minutes receiving instruction by experienced anglers on angling techniques and environmental stewardship. The parents are encouraged to participate with their children and prior to each fishing session each group receives a tutorial on water safety. Find out more at LINK IN BIO. @castforkids⠀

Take a Warrior Fishing is one of the programs that

Take a Warrior Fishing is one of the programs that @castforkids offers. The Take a Warrior Fishing program was established in 2011 and events are designed to support military personnel and their families, specifically targeting persons assigned to Warrior Transition Commands, by creating an adaptive, community-based outdoor recreation experience through the sport of fishing. Numerous studies have shown that traumatic events not only affect the psychological structures of the self, but also the attachment and meaning that link individuals and community. This program seeks to restore those disconnects. Each event will have the capacity to accommodate up to 150 families and brings in numerous community partners. LINK IN BIO⠀

C.A.S.T. for Kids @castforkids - The Flagship Program Celebrates Children with Special Needs Through the Sport of Fishing. Children with special needs (ages 6-18) and their caretakers come together with community volunteers for a fun day of fishing they may not otherwise experience. These events provide a refreshing break from their daily challenges. Spreading a positive message that kids with disabilities can accomplish anything, we include all children, despite their limitations. This is all made possible through national and local sponsors-people who want to make a big difference in the lives of kids with special needs thus strengthening their community.⠀

Each week UWOTF will be sharing an individual or outdoors organization that might not look like us. Connection, education and resources are the three main goals of UWOTF. This is sharing a RESOURCE of an individual or an organization that most of the UWOTF community do not follow. We are developing relationships and trust with these outdoor organizations so we can potentially collaborate with them on events, education and conversations. Reaching out and supporting other outdoor organizations of individuals who might not look like all of us, will make the UWOTF more safe and inclusive and we'll continue to grow and reach individuals who have never fly fished or those who have been afraid to start.
