5/20/23 – VA – 4hr Independent Angler Workshop

Become confident and competent on the water.  United Women on the Fly is excited to partner with Fly Fish Instruct for our Women’s Fly-Fishing Workshops.  Join Heather Hodson, founder of United Women on the Fly, and Kiki Galvin, owner of Ms Guided Fly Fishing, for the in-person 4hr “Independent Angler” workshop in Syria PA Saturday  5/20/23.  This course is geared towards beginner to intermediate anglers.  Having basic fly-fishing knowledge is encouraged. 

We’ll start the morning by sharing tippet tips, tying basic knots, and building different leaders.  Next, we’ll practice the dominant and off-shoulder roll casting techniques.  In the afternoon we’ll head to the water to discuss how to approach the river and the ABCs of Fly Fishing.  Be ready to walk the river bank as we discuss the different sections of a river, identify seams, and learn about primary and secondary lies.  Once we identify where fish live, we’ll cover how to choose the right fly to trick your next trophy trout.  We’ll end the day by picking up rocks, seining the river bottom, and learning how to “match the hatch”.
