This Intro to Fly Casting is geared toward someone who has never casted a fly rod or who has very minimal experience. This class will be a lot of discussion about equipment, principles of fly casting, description of loops and grip options.  Everyone will set-up their own rod/reel and we’ll do some fun practical drills for creating tight loops and getting the feel of the rod load.  No equipment necessary.  Please email [email protected] if you need a rod/reel set-up.

Time: 5:30pm – 6:30pm

Location: Spokane WA – Olmsted Park in Kendall Yards Across from Hello Sugar Coffee

Equipment: Bring your own equipment with a 9′ 3x leader.  If you need equipment please email [email protected] to request rod/reel set-up.

Weather: Bring appropriate clothing to cast outdoors.  Class will take place rain or shine.  Extreme weather conditions will be evaluated the day of the class.

The core of fly fishing is fly casting.  75% of fishing is the presentation.  In order to present the fly properly an angler must have an understanding of The Principles of Fly Casting.  These principles will be discussed in this class.  To become a successful fly caster you must apply the Three “P”s; Practice, Patience and Persistence.

Instructor: Heather Hodson – Northwest Fly Girl

Fly fishing for 11 years, Heather has dedicated her time to educate and inspire others.  Heather is currently studying for her Casting Instructor Certification with Fly Fishers International and has been teaching Fly Fishing since 2014.  Heather has been mentored by the best anglers and fly casters in the world.  This allows Heather to pass on the knowledge she’s learned to her students.  With nearly 130+ days on the water each year and fishing around the world, Heather continues to invest into herself to mentor anglers to be the best that they can be.
