Rip and Hopper are Heading to Alaska in 2020

R&H Alaska 2020

Rip and Hopper are heading to Alaska for their 2020 Adventure.

Join Heather Hodson and Jen Ripple for 5 nights/4 days fishing in Bristol Bay Alaska on 9/18/20 – 9/23/20.  King Salmon is known for its aggressive, very large, Rainbow Trout in the fall.  Our focus will be on these fish with a two-handed Spey Rod.  There will also be fly-out opportunities to experience “Wild Alaska” and fish remote areas with bears and lots of fish.  This is the 4th year that United Women on the Fly has spent with Frigate Travel and we can’t wait to go back!!

Guide Service: Kate and Justin Crump owners of Frigate Travel, a dynamic couple, who have been guiding Alaska for almost ten years.

These trips are so much more than a fishing adventure.  Women of different ages, professions, backgrounds and fishing abilities come together to experience a trip of a lifetime.  It’s a scary thing to step out of their comfort zone and join 5 other women.  The energy, laughter, smiles and friendships are like no other.  We came as strangers and leave UNITED as fly sisters.

LOGISTICS are pretty simple. Connect in Anchorage Alaska and Fly to King Salmon together.

Location –  King Salmon Alaska is 2894 miles southwest of Anchorage Alaska.  It is home to Katmai National Park and Preserve.

Cost: Alaska FishBum Rate – $3200 per person.  This includes 4 days guided, 5 nights lodging and all meals.  There’s no single angler additional cost!!  ** Guide/Hospitality Tips, Alcohol and Fly Outs are NOT included. **

Deposit: 50% deposit is due now to reserve your spot.  Payment can be taken in the form of Check, Venmo or PayPal.  All credit card or PayPal processing fees will be the angler’s responsibility.  $400 Non-Refundable Amount.  No refunds 90 days before event.

Final Payment – Due 90 days prior to trip. You will be invoiced by Rip and Hopper’s Adventure (Grow) for the final amount on 6/18/20.

Cost Does Not Include – Flights to and from King Salmon Alaska, Guide/Hospitality Tips, Alcohol, Alaska Fishing License and Fly Outs.  Tips for the guides and lodge staff and alcohol. It is good practice to tip $100-$150 per day/per guides. This would be $50-$75/day per angler. Lodge Staff Tips should be $25-$50 per day/per angler.  Tip total will be $325 – $650.  The guides and lodge staff work extremely hard for us, please tip well.

The FISHING opportunities are plentiful in September!  We’ll mainly be fishing to aggressive Rainbow Trout on the NakNak River. We might have an occasional Grayling, Dolly and Char in the mix.

Both Single and Double Handed Fly Fishing.  We’re heading to the NakNak River this time a year to catch the aggressive Rainbow Trout on the Spey Rod.  There will be opportunities to fly to remote areas (fly-outs) not included in price to catch Leopard Rainbow Trout, Fall Colored Char, Dolly Varden and Grayling.  The fly-out fisheries are mostly single-handed fished with an egg pattern and indicator.

Two anglers per boat. You will be assigned a different angler each day unless otherwise specified.  Assignments will be given each evening at dinner.

Fishing Equipment – (Optional): Single Hand 6, 7 or 8wt, Spey Rod 7 or 8wt with Matching Reels/Lines, Sink Tips and Flies. Fishing Gear is provided by Frigate Travel if needed.

This was the first year we stayed at the King Salmon Lodge. The rooms were clean, beds and linens were comfortable, the food was good and the drinks were delicious!! Definitely better than one would expect on a FISH BUM budget.

Sleeping Accommodations – Two anglers per room.  Each will have their own bed.  Lodging is comfortable (please do not expect 5 Stars on a Fish Bum budget).  You will be assigned a roommate if traveling as a single.

Plane, Truck or Boat got us to our fishing location.  There’s opportunities to fly into locations to walk and wade, fish from a boat or motor/float in a boat from fishing hole to fishing hole.  Frigate will either fly in packable rafts or have boats located at certain fly out locations.  We schedule two fly outs during the week (not included in the quoted trip cost).  We’ll either be flying in a Beaver or 206 plane with floats.

Fly Outs: Budget for 1 to 2 Fly Outs on this trip.  The only way to experience and fish Wild Alaska is to take a bush plane to one of the many locations.  Plan on an additional $975 – $1275 for two fly out options (price not included). The price varies based on the flights we choose. Don’t be shocked by the sticker price. Aviation fuel is very expensive. Add two flights to your fishing budget.

Flight Options: Kvichak (world famous for VERY LARGE aggressive Rainbows), Kulik (bears, beautiful float on packable rafts and incredible fishing) or Brooks River (famous bear viewing falls, lots of bears and gorgeous leopard rainbows). There are also several other additional fly out options that might be available according to fishing and weather conditions.

The Fishing options are endless and here are an example of a few. Nak Nek River (aggressive large rainbows that like to eat swung flies. Kvichak (world famous for VERY LARGE aggressive Rainbows), Kulik (bears, beautiful float on packable rafts and incredible fishing) or Brooks River (famous bear viewing falls, lots of bears and gorgeous leopard rainbows), Egegik River (volcano viewing, raft float with an opportunity for a Salmon Slam).  That’s just to name a few.

Bring your cameras because there’s a photo opportunity around every corner.  Most think of Alaska Grizzly Bears.  You’ll definitely get your Grizzly fill.  There are certain locations (Kulik River and Brooks River) where you’ll be fishing among the bears.  Both rivers are located in the Katmai National Park, a scenic and amazing place.  This Alaska Adventure is not complete without going through Grizzly School at Brooks River and standing at the Falls Observatory.  Check out the LIVE BEAR CAM before you go.

United Women on the Fly is a social media partner with KeepEmWet Fishing.  We do our best to properly handle fish that we catch.  Frigate is also a huge advocate for proper fish handling.  Check out AquaTech for their AxisGo Cell Phone Underwater Case.  Several of the ladies caught and kept their Silver Salmon.  Frigate Travel does a great job filleting and packaging salmon for you to take home.

This event is on a FISH BUM Budget. As most probably know Alaska is one of the most expensive fisheries around. We’re beyond proud to be able to offer such an incredible adventure for this price!!!  Frigate Adventure Travel is so amazing!!  You won’t be disappointed.
