This month we are featuring Mary Atkinson from Nova Scotia Canada. Mary is a part of the media Untied Women on the Fly Team and we’re beyond lucky to have her! Learn more about Mary below.
How often Do You Fish?
As often as I can. I’m fortunate to live right on a beautiful trout river, it allows for those quick fix moments when I can slot in a few cast. The majority of our larger outings happen more frequently in the spring.

How do you see the future of fly fishing?
For all!! 😉
Who's the one person who has had the biggest impact on your fly fishing journey?
Heather Hodson has made a huge mark on my ventures. Developing Atlantic Women on the Fly with her knowledge and kindness has hit hard. ❤️
What’s the one thing people would be surprised to learn about you?
I’m a huge introvert, I have to force that aside when running workshops or even on the water to say “hello” to someone.
What’s the one piece of advice you would give to anyone who is new to the sport of fly fishing and is just starting out?
Don’t let it intimidate you- that’s easier to say than do I realize; as I’ve been there many times. Ask someone for the basics, try out their fly rods; that’s a great introduction.
How has United Women on the Fly impacted your life/fly fishing community?
Tremendously!! The support and connection from this group, the confidence I’ve been given as an angler and an event host. It does not go unnoticed ❤️
