How to Remove a Fly

October Tuesday Tip - Week #2

Tutorial of how to remove a fly from your friends body part.  Brought to us by Clairey Grubbs with Stripping for a cure.  Follow Clairey at @sassymamaonthefly and @strippingforacure.

This technique takes two hands.

Two Hand Removal Steps

  1. Take a piece of fly line or large monofilament tippet and put around the hook bend.
  2. Press down applying pressure to the front (eye) of the fly.
  3. Keep the line taut while you push down on the eye of the fly
  4. QUICKLY Pull away from the eye of the fly.

Hopefully the flies barb was pinched. Video brought to us by Clairey Grubbs with Stripping for a Cure in Jackson Wyoming.

Stripping for a cure

Stripping for a Cure is an annual celebration of women, fly fishing and philanthropy bringing female anglers together to raise funds for those battling cancer through the St. John’s Health Foundation. This women’s fly fishing event is held on the scenic Snake River in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.⠀

This year the annual event has been replaced with an online auction due to Covid. 2019 raised $85,000 and this year the goal is to raise $100,000. Please consider this incredible organization to help women in an area that most have visited.⠀
